Getting there & terminal
The Destination Gotland terminal is at Nynäsvägen 2B in Nynäshamn, around 60 kilometres south of Stockholm. The route there is exactly why this is the most-used connection to Gotland: it's a 400-metre walk from Nynäshamn station, reachable by commuter train (pendeltåg) from Stockholm Central in around an hour.
If you'd rather skip the train ticket, take the Båtbussen: the connecting bus leaves from Cityterminalen in Stockholm 1 hour 45 minutes before each departure and takes you straight to the terminal. On the return trip it departs around 15 minutes after the ferry arrives and also stops at Gullmarsplan on the way back.
By car, motorway 73 (Nynäsvägen) takes you directly to the port.
Check-in & departure
Check-in opens at the latest 1 hour 30 minutes before departure and closes 20 minutes before - for vehicles and foot passengers alike. Vehicles without a driver present must check in two hours ahead.
Your boarding pass arrives automatically by SMS or email around three hours before departure; alternatively, print it at the terminal kiosk. If you're travelling without a car and already have the pass on your phone, head straight to the gate.
On board
The route is served by the M/S Visby, the M/S Gotland and the M/S Drotten. The two newer sister ships run on liquefied natural gas and biogas.
On board you'll find restaurants and a bistro lounge, an onboard shop, a cinema and a children's play area; day cabins can be added on request. With a crossing of just over three hours, a regular seat is enough for most passengers - a cabin makes more sense for families with young children or for the late evening departure.

Cars, campervans, caravans, motorbikes and bicycles can all come along. Gotland is a cycling island with a dense network of paths - if you only want to see Visby and the surrounding area, you can manage well without a car and rent a bike locally instead.
Pets are allowed and must be registered at the time of booking; depending on the ship, they travel in designated areas, in pet cabins, or in the vehicle.
During the Swedish summer holidays and around Midsummer week, vehicle spaces sell out early - well before passenger seats do.
Arrival & onward travel
The ferry docks at the ferry terminal on Färjeleden in Visby, right below the old town. You can walk to the town wall and the lanes of the Hanseatic old town in a few minutes.
Gotland is bigger than many expect: it's a good hour and a half to Fårö in the north, including the short island ferry crossing; around 40 minutes to the rock formations (raukar) near Lickershamn; and just under an hour to Ljugarn on the east coast. Buses run from Visby to all parts of the island.
