Gotland Ferry Prices and Fares

What the crossing costs comes down to your vehicle, your fare level and the departure you pick. This page shows the levers.

  • Passenger ticket, vehicle package or mini-cruise: three products with very different maths
  • Three fare levels, from the cheapest with no changes to the fully refundable one
  • Children, teenagers, students, pensioners and groups of ten or more travel at reduced rates

What the ferry to Gotland costs

Prices at a glance

What the price depends on

Destination Gotland prices dynamically: what a departure costs follows how many travellers want the same sailing. There are no fixed seasonal rates, and two neighbouring dates can sit far apart. You travel cheapest by booking early and staying flexible about the day. Fares are quoted in Swedish kronor, and the price list does not distinguish between routes - the same fares apply from Nynäshamn and from Oskarshamn.

Three things decide the bill: what you bring, how many people travel and which fare level you pick.

Passenger tickets and vehicle packages

A passenger-only ticket starts at 240 SEK. If you are taking a vehicle across you do not buy separate tickets but a package covering the vehicle and up to five passengers at a fixed price, graded by length.

Package, up to 5 people One way
Car or motorhome under 6 m 1,250 SEK
Car or motorhome 6-9 m 1,350 SEK
Motorhome over 9 m 1,450 SEK
Car under 6 m with caravan 1,500 SEK

These are entry prices for a one-way crossing booked online; the packages can be neither changed nor refunded. Booking by phone or at the terminal adds a 70 SEK service fee.

The three fare levels

Destination Gotland puts three levels on top of the passenger ticket, differing in how much freedom they give you:

  • Mini is the base fare. It is due when you book and stays tied to the departure you booked; changes and refunds are excluded.
  • Flexi adds 20 % of the ticket value and allows changes and cancellation up to one hour before departure. The surcharge itself is not refunded.
  • Flexi+ adds 30 %, can be changed or cancelled up to one hour before departure and is refunded in full, surcharge included.

With both flexible levels payment falls due at the latest 28 days before departure, or immediately for late bookings. The level cannot be switched once the booking is complete, so the decision is made at the booking stage. Mini is enough for a fixed holiday plan; for a trip with an open return the surcharge earns its money.

Who travels at a reduced rate

Children aged 0 to 12 and young people aged 13 to 25 pay a reduced passenger fare graded by age. Students travel at a reduced rate against a valid student card, as do pensioners on proof of age - from 65 the ID is enough. Groups of ten or more get their own group rates. An Interrail or Eurail pass earns a discount on the passenger ticket, booked through the operator's telephone service. Anyone registered as resident on Gotland travels at the Gotland rate once eligibility is confirmed.

How to make the crossing cheaper

  1. Book early and compare several travel days rather than committing to one date.
  2. Look at the other departures on the same day: dynamic pricing spreads travellers between sailings, so the popular times cost accordingly more.
  3. Use the vehicle package to the full - up to five people cost nothing extra inside it.
  4. Pick the fare level to match the trip, not the mood: for a fixed date, Mini is enough.
  5. Book online and save the service fee.

Booking well ahead pays off most before Midsummer and during the Swedish summer holidays. That is when the popular sailings sell out early, and anyone crossing with a vehicle needs the space on deck as well as the seat.

The mini-cruise from Stockholm prices differently

The summer connection Stockholm - Visby follows no ferry price list, because it is a Viking Line mini-cruise. The cabin is always part of the ticket and is booked whole, so a solo traveller pays for all of it, and a fuel surcharge and an EU climate surcharge apply per person. The ship has no vehicle deck, which rules out a vehicle package altogether.

Which departures run on your date is shown in the timetable.

Common questions about prices

The questions people ask most about fares and discounts.

What decides the price of the Gotland ferry?+

Destination Gotland prices dynamically, so what a departure costs follows demand for that sailing. On top of that come your vehicle, the number of people travelling with you and the fare level you choose. There are no fixed seasonal rates, and two neighbouring dates can be far apart.

Is the vehicle package better value than separate tickets?+

If you are taking a vehicle across you book a package anyway: vehicle plus up to five passengers at a fixed price, graded by vehicle length. Used to the full it is the cheapest way to cross, but it cannot be changed or refunded.

What is the difference between Mini, Flexi and Flexi+?+

Mini is the base fare, paid when you book and tied to the departure you booked. Flexi costs 20 % more and lets you change or cancel up to one hour before departure, though the surcharge itself is not refunded. Flexi+ costs 30 % more and refunds the surcharge as well.

Which discounts are available?+

Children aged 0 to 12 and young people aged 13 to 25 pay a reduced passenger fare, graded by age. Students with a valid card, pensioners on proof of age and groups of ten or more also travel at reduced rates, and an Interrail or Eurail pass earns a discount too.

Why does the Stockholm connection price differently?+

Because it is not a ferry but a Viking Line mini-cruise. The cabin is part of the ticket and is booked whole, so a solo traveller pays for all of it, and the ship has no vehicle deck. The details are on the page for the Stockholm - Visby route.
