Which departure port suits you?
Three connections serve Gotland, and the choice is almost always decided by the journey on land rather than by the crossing. Nynäshamn is the port for anyone coming from the Stockholm area: the ferry terminal is a few steps from the railway station, and the commuter train runs there straight from Stockholm Central.
Oskarshamn is the shorter way from southern and western Sweden. The port sits on the E22 along the east coast, so if you arrive over the Øresund Bridge or from Gothenburg you avoid the detour via Stockholm. Both ports are served all year round.
From Stockholm there is no ferry in the usual sense, but a mini-cruise via Mariehamn on Åland, summer only, and without a vehicle deck. That is why it appears in the timetable above with a completely different sailing time. If you simply want to cross, take one of the other two ports.
What to watch out for in the timetable
Two patterns move the departures above. The first is the season: Nynäshamn and Oskarshamn are served all year, but far more densely in summer, and the mini-cruise from Stockholm exists only then. Look up your exact date rather than carrying over the rhythm of another month.
The second is check-in. With Destination Gotland it closes noticeably before departure, for vehicles and foot passengers alike. The departure time above is therefore not the time you need to be standing at the terminal. That one is in your booking confirmation.
With a vehicle things get tighter still. During the Swedish summer holidays the vehicle deck on popular sailings fills up before the passenger spaces do. A departure in the timetable does not yet mean there is a space left for your car that day.
