    Day 1: Departure Stockholm

    Your mini cruise begins at Stadsgården port in Stockholm. In the afternoon you depart at 17:00 and enjoy the passage through the Stockholm archipelago. On board you'll find restaurants, bars, live entertainment and duty-free shopping. After dinner on board, you can end the evening in the nightclubs or with live music.

  2. 09:30 Uhr

    Day 2: Visby – Shore excursion & Return journey

    After breakfast on board you reach the port of Visby on Gotland around 09:30. You have the entire day at your disposal: Explore the cobblestone streets, church ruins and rose-covered houses of the UNESCO World Heritage city. A shuttle bus operates between the port and city center (09:45–16:45). Bicycles can be rented on site at a discount. At 18:00 the ship departs again towards Stockholm.

    Day 3: Arrival in Stockholm

    The morning is entirely devoted to relaxation on board. Enjoy a leisurely brunch while the ship glides back through the skerries towards Stockholm. Around 14:30 you reach Stadsgården port again – relaxed and full of impressions from Gotland.

Who operates the ferry from Stockholm to Visby?+

The route is operated by Viking Line, through the joint venture Gotland Alandia Cruises (together with Gotlandsbolaget). The cruise ship M/S Birka Gotland is deployed with space for 1,800 passengers and 734 cabins.

How long does the crossing take and when does the ferry depart?+

The ferry leaves Stockholm at 5:00 PM and arrives in Visby the next morning at 9:30 AM – the crossing takes approximately 16.5 hours as an overnight journey. The route goes via Mariehamn (Åland).

The return journey from Visby starts at 6:00 PM with arrival in Stockholm the day after next at 2:30 PM (also via Mariehamn).

When and how often does the ferry run?+

The connection is seasonal. In summer 2026, there are 24 departures between June 2nd and August 23rd. Additionally, Viking Line offers occasional special cruises, such as an Advent cruise to Visby in December.

You can book either a 3-day cruise (Stockholm–Mariehamn–Visby–Mariehamn–Stockholm) or a one-way ticket Stockholm–Visby.

Can I bring my car or motorhome?+

No. The M/S Birka Gotland is a cruise ship without a vehicle deck. Taking cars, motorhomes or motorcycles is not possible on this route.

If you want to take your vehicle to Gotland, use the fast ferry from Nynäshamn to Visby (Destination Gotland shipping company, approx. 3 hours, several times daily, year-round). Nynäshamn is reachable from Stockholm by commuter train in about one hour.

What does the ferry from Stockholm to Visby cost?+

According to directferries.de, ticket prices range between €125 and €326 per person. The exact price depends on the travel date, departure time and capacity utilization and is calculated dynamically.

A cabin is always included in the price – cabins can only be booked as a whole, not individual beds. Higher cabin categories cost an additional fee. There is also a fuel and EU climate surcharge per person.

What amenities and entertainment are available on board?+

On board, an extensive cruise offering awaits you: several restaurants (seafood buffet, French bistro, grill, à la carte), various bars (including panorama bar with sea view), an Archipelago Spa with jacuzzis and saunas, duty-free shopping, live music and entertainment programs.

For families, there is a children's play area and family-friendly shows. Children up to 5 years travel free, children aged 6–11 receive a 50% discount.

May I bring my dog or cat?+

No. Pets are not allowed on the M/S Birka Gotland. While Viking Line permits animals on regular Baltic Sea routes, they explicitly exclude cruises and Birka Gotland sailings from this policy.
